Situated on its own island in the northern atolls a 35 minute seaplane ride from Male, this resort provides a unique, get away from it all experience. Kanuhura combines an elegant informal style with quality accommodation and excellent service. At 1km long the island is one of the larger in The Maldives with expansive, perfect white sand beaches and a large, sheltered lagoon.
The accommodation is superb - the 100 spacious rooms are cleverly constructed from local materials using cool stone, wood and thatched roofs, as well as having all the latest mod-cons including plasma screens, DVD and CD players. There is a superb free form freshwater swimming pool, a games room, shops, laundry service and a children's club.
For dinner there is a choice of three different restaurants: the Veli Café, The Olive Tree serving Mediterranean dishes or the Thin Rah restaurant, which offers different themes each evening featuring open cooking stations. In-villa dining caters for breakfast, light snacks, romantic dinners and special celebrations in the privacy of guests' villas.
There is a superb range of activities including a spa with a diverse range of treatments and great facilities - a sanctuary for relaxation and over all body care with Aroma Stone therapy and Maldivian massages.
There are frequent boat trips to other deserted islands, extensive watersports and a dive centre. Lhaviyani Atoll is known for its stunning underwater fauna and marine life offering some of the best dive sites in the world with over 40 sites plus two shipwrecks easily accessible from the resort. The PADI 5 Gold Palm certified dive centre offers newcomers a first-class introduction to diving and creates unique excursions for experienced divers. Nitrox diving is also available.
A charming resort which offers pretty villas in a contemporary Maldivian style, all complete with the latest technology. The spa is wonderful and has a huge range of treatments as well as stone therapy and Maldivian Theyo Dhemun which uses rose oil.
The food is delightful too – I ate in the Mediterranean restaurant, The Olive Tree for lunch which serves woodfired pizzas and Italian influenced dishes. The resort caters exceptionally well for children and has a dedicated kid’s club as well as children’s menus, infant purees and baby equipment.
Kanuhura offers something for everyone and despite having 100 villas, actually feels very small and low-key. I would recommend it for those looking for a stylish resort with great food, relaxed atmosphere and great facilities for families.
