Montpelier Plantation & Beach, Nevis

See On Map »

Montpelier Plantation & Beach in Nevis is widely regarded as one of the best privately owned, family-run hotels in the world, offering the highest standards of service and cuisine. The hotel came fourth in the 'Top Resorts in the Caribbean' category in the Conde Nast Traveller Magazine 2016 Readers' Choice Awards and was named  ‘St Kitts & Nevis’s Leading Boutique Hotel’ and ‘St Kitts & Nevis’s Leading Hotel’ at the 2017 World Travel Awards.

The Relais & Chateaux property is set on a 60 acre private estate, 750 feet above the Caribbean Sea in the foothills of Nevis Peak.
Montpelier Plantation & Beach offers elegant, gracious accommodation and luxurious style.  The 16 guest rooms are dotted around a 10-acre hillside garden and are all decorated and furnished to a high standard.  They do not have air conditioning as they have been designed to catch the cool, trade wind breezes characteristic of the Leeward Islands of the West Indies.

Situated in lush tropical gardens on the eastern edge of the property, a winding path leads you to the newest addition to Montpelier Plantation. The Garden Suite has bamboo floors, a four poster bed, luxurious walk-in shower and a complete wall of Jalousie windows to capture the breeze. The suite embraces nature with a light contemporary touch, boasting a private outdoor gazebo and garden to enjoy views to the mountain and sea beyond. An adjacent Plantation room can be combined with the Garden Suite to create a two bedroom suite. There is also the ‘Little House’, a restored 1700s Nevisian house, that can accommodate groups of families and friends too.

As guests may expect from a Relais & Chateaux property, fine dining is at the heart of Montpelier Plantation. Restaurant 750’s chefs use the finest, local produce whenever possible to offer classic cuisine with contemporary and island inspiration each evening. A more relaxed venue for lunch and dinner is the ultra-stylish Indigo Bar and Restaurant, located by the pool and serving sharing platters as well as a gourmet menu. While staying here, we recommend that all guests take the opportunity to dine on lobster and other fine foods in a beautiful setting at one of the hotel's beach barbeques.

Montpelier Plantation has its own private, sandy beach which is equipped with plenty of sunshades, sun beds and a pavilion. Guests will be offered the use of ocean kayaks, snorkeling equipment as well as mountain bikes to explore the island away from its shoreline.  Other features include a library, a tennis court and a large freshwater pool with superb mountain views along with complimentary yoga and Pilates sessions.

Our Opinion

If you are a foodie traveller, this gorgeous Relais and Chateaux property, set in 60 acres is a must with its amazing food and wine options to enhance your stay - the homemade yoghurt at breakfast was the best I've ever tasted!   Having only 19 rooms you will soon be treated like one of the family as the staff here are great - they are so welcoming and can't do enough for you.  I loved the relaxing pool area overlooked by the old sugar mill - a great place to spend your time with a good book.  The beach is easily reached by the daily shuttle and isn't far away, featuring a bar and beach cabanas on the Caribbean side of the island it's calm and beautiful.  You mustn't let the distance from the beach deter you from staying here because you will be missing a treat - one of my favourites!
