Baros Maldives is situated in the North Male Atoll - a lush tropical island in the waters of a shallow lagoon surrounded by a reef rich in marine life. Guests are greeted at the airport and escorted to the resort's luxury launch for a cruise to the island. Here the elegant timber and sandstone villas stand on stilts over the water or nestled among the exotic blooms that fringe the beach creating the perfect Maldivian escape.
Baros was named 'Indian Ocean's Most Romantic Resort' at the 2017 World Travel Awards.
The 75 villas are elegantly designed and beautifully furnished with large windows to let in plenty of natural light. All have private verandas, sun loungers and a dining table for two, a spacious teak floored bedroom with a king size bed, vanity desk and a large sofa or day bed. In addition you will find all the usual amenities associated with a 5* resort – a luxury bathroom, espresso coffee machine, in-villa bar, flat screen TV, surround sound systems with DVD/CD player, a personal iPod loaded with huge selection of music, complimentary wireless high speed Internet access, an in-villa safe and air conditioning.
Baros has three restaurants and two bars. The Lighthouse has a stunning rooftop and is positioned over the water for dinner, while the Cayenne Grill is perfect for al fresco dining in thatched gazebos above the lagoon. Here you can dine on specially prepared seafood, fish, meat and vegetarian dishes and an excellent selection of salads, antipasti, mezze, sushi and sashimi. The thatched Lime Restaurant is a series of open-sided pavilions by the water and is open for breakfast and all day dining with worldwide cuisine from an a la Carte menu. Alternatively you can dine anywhere on the island - whether it's a barbecue for two on the beach, a Thai feast on the boardwalk, a picnic on a sandbank or breakfast in the privacy of your villa - Baros has a dedicated dining team to take care of it all.
The Maldivian Lounge at Baros gives visitors a sense of Maldivian culture with displays of locally made artifacts and hand-crafted traditional furniture and photographs of Maldives from the 1970's so before the islands of the Maldives became a popular tourism destination. It's also home to the world's best collection of authentic, ancient maps of the islands adding a cultural dimension to your stay!
The Maldives is all about relaxation and Baros is no exception - the spa has four spa treatment rooms, garden relaxation sala, a yoga pavilion and therapists on hand to personally advise on the best treatments, so you're sure to become a regular visitor during your stay.
The island is a great base for diving. Snorkeling is a leisurely experience and the lagoon is teeming with fish and the house reef, some 15 metres from the shore, has amazing marine life. Try your hand at scuba diving under the watchful eye of one of the resort's professional diving instructors and progress to the PADI Scuba Dive programme or upgrade to the Ocean Water Diver certification enabling you to dive anywhere in the world. Baros is the gateway to 30 dive sites with a biodiversity of marine life to excite even the most experienced diver. Ask for details of the 'Diving by Design' programme.
The resort has a resident marine biologist who can guide snorkeling excursions on the house reef - you can even adopt your own coral under the 'coral planting project' and receive pictures of your coral's growth every six months! The island has been declared the first eco-dive centre in The Maldives and offers the 'Reef Check programme' to all Baros guests.
