Blue Waters Inn, Tobago

  • Allows Children
  • Bird Watching
  • Diving / Watersports
Blue Waters Inn in Tobago is a perfect base for divers and nature lovers alike, located in a secluded, horseshoe-shaped bay near Speyside in the north of the island. Not only are 80% of Tobago’s best diving sites within the surrounding area, but the resort's 46 acre tropical gardens are also home to a wide variety of exotic birds.

Blue Waters Inn has 38 elegant rooms which are set just behind the beach in low rise buildings, while three separate bungalows offer more spacious accommodation and full sized kitchens - perfect for larger groups. All of the rooms, studios and bungalows have a private patio or balcony and most have ocean views.

Drift Deck is an open-sided, waterfront bar and restaurant which specialises in seafood as well as offering a variety of exotic cocktails. Aqua is an elegant, indoor restaurant which serves a varied menu using the freshest ingredients. Fresh fish is guaranteed as local fishermen regularly bring their catch  to the resort's private jetty for the chef to choose from.
The resort also has a beachside pool, a small shop and air conditioned recreation room with cable TV, videos, library and board games.

The extensive beach and mountainside grounds are a nature sanctuary and the inn's eco friendly approach is geared to maintain its unspoilt beauty. If you are seeking a relaxing, casual holiday off the beaten track and are interested in scuba diving or wildlife, Blue Waters Inn is a perfect destination!

Guests tend to spend their time making the most of the stunning natural setting. 1000 feet of private, gently shelving beachfront offers wonderful swimming all year round with great snorkelling, kayaking and stand up paddle boarding in the bay. The onsite PADI 5* dive centre is the most sophisticated dive operation on the island and can transport you to all the premier dive spots including the famous giant brain corals found nearby.
For those who prefer to stay on dry land, nature trails run adjacent to the property, allowing guestst to hire a guide or to follow a trail for a daily jog or walk.

Further afield, deep sea fishing, glass bottomed boat and island excursions for snorkeling and bird watching can be arranged and paid for at the resort.  Little Tobago, the largest bird sanctuary, is only a 10 minute boat ride away and St. Giles Island, home to the region's largest seabird colony, is just a 30 minute boat ride away.

Dawn is the best time to search for wildlife around the resort.  Day breaks with the Tropical Mockingbirds and chattering Rufous-vented Chachalacas and a pre-breakfast stroll around the gardens may reward you with sightings of the Black and White barred Anstrike and the jewel coloured Rufus tailed Jacamar, the Blue grey Tanagar and Blue crowned Motmot.  Red Squirrels, lizards, an array of butterflies also call the gardens their home while the fruit-eating bat becomes the focus of attention at dusk.

Our Opinion

Located on a calm, sheltered beach, Blue Waters Inn is a very quiet and relaxing property which offers complete tranquillity and pampering. Due to its remote location on the opposite end of the island to the main tourist area, it is recommended only for those who appreciate being off the beaten track and in a location which is fantastic for snorkelling, diving and wildlife.

Recently built, the pool and Jacuzzi offer a lovely spot to relax in addition to the beach. The great thing about the location is that 80% of dive sites are in this area and the hotel has an excellent dive shop. For wildlife lovers, the hotel is built within 46 acres of land and there is a walking trail where lots of different species of birds can be spotted.

The rooms are all ocean facing so that you can just step out and be metres from the beach. This is quite unusual for such an affordable hotel in the Caribbean and means that you can even hear the sound of the waves at night! The rooms all have good facilities such as TVs and some even have kitchenettes with and dining tables and chairs, which are great for families.
