Trip Diary: St Lucia Hotels

Posted on

Julia visited St Lucia in 2014 to inspect some of the beautiful resorts we feature – it’s a hard life honestly!)  She was fortunate to stay at resorts including Cap MaisonJade Mountain and Anse Chastanet– read all about her trip below.

Cap Maison

The first stop of my St Lucia travels was Cap Maison situated on the West side of the Island within the famous Cap Estate. With break taking views and Mediterranean architecture  I was greeted by the very warm and personable General Manager, Ross and shown to my room. I was staying in a Garden View Room with large double doors leading onto a terrace, situated close enough to the bar and restaurant but still peaceful.

Cap Maison Food

Stepping into the Cliff Bar, with views overlooking the Caribbean sea, I was greeted by friendly and warm staff who advised me on their most popular cocktails! It’s worth noting that all cocktail’s are made using local seasonal fruit and premium spirits, whilst their wine cellar holds over 1,500 bottles.  For something special consider having a candlelit private dinner in the wine cellar- the height of simple romance.

If you are an early riser, make sure you grab a coffee and overlook the beach.. Here you will see the famous naked fisherman ( YES, REALLY!!) heading out for today’s catch for The Naked Fishermans Bar and Grill. Definitely not something you see every day….

A perfect choice for laid back couples looking for an intimate escapism and understated luxury- This hotel is a fusion between Mediterranean style and Caribbean expectations!

The next stop of my St Lucia trip was Jade Mountain and Anse Chastanet, sister resorts both set in 600 acres of private estates with views over the Pitons.

Jade Mountain

Jade Mountain provides a delicate mix between sleek, chic and the up most of luxury. The hotel really has the wow factor….Accommodation at Jade Mountain offers a range of individually decorated, open fronted suites, with dramatic views of the Pitons- perfect to admire from your infinity pool. I stayed in a Star Infinity Pool Suite which included a 450 sq Infinity pool- each suite type increases in floor plan size and pool size.

Jade Mountain Suite View

Your suite comes with your very own Butler , I was fortunate to have “Teddy” looking after me during my stay, he was beyond helpful and more than happy to share his local knowledge and advice- So make sure you make good use of this!

Jade Mountain Mackerel

The food and drink at Jade Mountain cannot really be put into words that do it ample justice..Incredible, beautiful, delicious, elegant and so so good, with a postcard picture backdrop, it doesn’t get any better than this… I can personally recommend the Mackerel on a bed of fresh linguine!

Breakfast is a feast to be enjoyed, you can pretty much request anything and you will soon have it right in front of you! The hotel is also fantastic at catering to all sorts of dietary and allergy requests.

As Jade Mountain and Anse Chastanet are sister resorts, the guests of Jade Mountain are free to use the facilities of both. Anse Chastanet has two beaches- one within the resort and one a few minutes complementary boat ride away ( alternatively this is a gentle 10 minute stroll).

Anse Mamin

Anse Mamin, the second of the beaches is home to Anthony, the Stoneman! The story goes a little like this…. Anthony was a security guard hired by Anse Chastanet to guard the unused and pebbly beach. As the years went by Anthony found himself moving the pebbles to form displays around the trees and pathways to kill the time! He eventually discovered the beautiful white sand underneath all the washed up pebbles and the Hotel then re hired him as the “The Stoneman”- Now Anthony has cleared the beach of pebbles and created beautifully lined paths, trees and anything else he can find! So..If you bump into Anthony on the beach, as I did, say Hi… Although I’m told he’s normally too engrossed in his work to stop and chat!!

Anse Chastanet Ginger

The accommodation at Anse Chastanet is bright, cheery and unique. The room  “Ginger” is most requested due to the tree that is growing through the bathroom! Anse Chastanet is built into the hillside allowing you to feel like you are a million miles away and at one with nature, a truly relaxing getaway.

Friendly staff, two beautiful beaches, great food and cocktails ( I recommend the Yellow Bird!), 9 locations in the resort you can married at, a 12 mile bike trail with the resident “Bike Tyson”, Jog trails and old plantation ruins to discover…. Anse Chastanet has something for everyone and remains one of my favourites on the Island.
