A green, fertile, tropical, island with volcanic peaks, a rain forest and banana plantations, as well as some superb beaches, St Lucia is widely regarded as one of the prettiest Caribbean islands and is a popular choice for a wedding or honeymoon. Quite apart from the dramatic landscape and lush vegetation, in our experience the people of St Lucia are particularly welcoming and friendly.

The southern half of the island is dominated by the Pitons, St Lucia’s famous volcanic mountain peaks and accompanying tropical rainforest, as well as numerous coconut and banana plantations. Not to be missed are the sulphur baths at Soufriere, the remains of a once active volcano! The roads are twisty and mountainous – a day’s jeep hire can be quite an adventure, but will be well rewarded by visiting some of the tiny coves and bays off the beaten track.

The northern end of the island has a gentler topography, is more densely populated, with local golden sand beaches, coves and harbours. A two centre holiday, comprising, say, 8 days at a beach resort, followed by 4 days in the mountainous southern half, is perhaps the best way to explore the island.

The island has 2 airports: Hewanorra, the international airport, is at the southern end of the island, resulting in a longer transfer than on other islands, (of 1 to 2 hours,) and GFL Charles (previously known as Vigie), near Castries, on the west coast, which serves local, inter-island flights, and is closer to the northern resorts and hotels. (see Fact File on each property description, for actual transfer times from each airport).

What's on?
