OBLU by Atmosphere at Helengeli, north male atoll

Helengeli Island has a wonderful reputation worldwide, for its incomparably exotic house reef and superb channel diving, just meters from the shoreline. The unique feature of Helengeli House Reef is that it lies right at a primary entrance to the Atoll, in the middle of a Channel with resident silver-tipped sharks, lobsters and giant sea turtles. The current flow into the Atoll, allows you to observe all the underwater bio-diversity, including pelagic fish category such as Tuna, Shark, Rays & Jack Fish. For the more advanced divers, Kuda Thila is just a 10 minute boat trip away and slopes down to 30 metres, where you can experience a selection of hard and soft corals while schools of Fusiliers, Sweetlips and Red-toothed Triggerfish surround you.

DHAWA Ihuru, north male atoll

Boasting one of the best house reefs in the Maldives, Dhawa Ihuru is the perfect place for snorkelling and diving to explore the depths of the beautiful Indian Ocean. Providing training for both beginners and experienced divers, there is underwater life here for all to enjoy. Spot manta rays at Lankan Manta Point – a world renowned site for manta rays or get as close as you like to a school of grey reef, silver tip and white tip sharks circling in the deep waters at Hulhangu Kandu, where you can also find eagle rays swimming alongside tunas and barracudas. If you want to take a look at smaller sea life head to the Dhon Bibi Haa reef and gaze over the top of the coral blocks to watch frogfish, stonefish, lionfish and ribbon eels – with so much to see we are sure your dive trip won’t be a one off!

Lily Beach resort & spa, south ari atoll

The house reef at Lily Beach really is exceptional, with a total of ten entry and exit points, plus more than 40 dive sites and shipwrecks within easy reach. Guests can expect to encounter turtles, white-tip reef sharks, schooling jack fish, giant moray eels and octopus. Plus if you are really lucky, you may also spot mantas on the house reef alongside the resident clown fish, shrimp and crabs. Those who wish to discover the reef without getting wet can do so thanks to ‘Penguin’, a submarine-type boat whose extra deep hull has glass windows which offer spectacular underwater views.

Baros, north male atoll

Baros itself surpasses the idea of the ‘dream island’ and makes a great base for diving and snorkelling, with a lagoon that is teeming with fish and a house reef, some 15 metres from the shore, with amazing marine life. Guests can try their hand at scuba diving under the watchful eye of one of the resort’s professional diving instructors and progress to the PADI Scuba Dive programme or upgrade to the Ocean Water Diver certification enabling you to dive anywhere in the world. Baros is the gateway to 30 dive sites with a biodiversity of marine life to excite even the most experienced diver. The resort has a resident marine biologist who can guide snorkelling excursions on the house reef, where you can even adopt your own coral under the ‘coral planting project’ and receive pictures of your coral’s growth every six months! The island has been declared the first eco-dive centre in The Maldives and offers the ‘Reef Check programme’ to all Baros guests.
