Another week, another trip for Jo! Never one to miss out, she was one of the first UK tour operators to visit RAAYA by Atmosphere. This is the latest addition to the Tropic Breeze portfolio in the Maldives, located in the Raa Atoll, a stunning 45-minute seaplane transfer from Male International Airport.
The island is chic and contemporary while maintaining the natural beauty discovered by Seb, a castaway artist who found safety on the island when he arrived here in 1954. Jo loved her stay on the island and found the mix of the Robinson Crusoe-esque charm combined with all of the benefits of a world class All Inclusive escape the perfect balance for a Maldives holiday.
Your luxurious home away from home
The first thing you notice about the villas at RAAYA by Atmosphere is their unique design. Their sleek lines and pitched roofs give them a fresh and modern look as well as providing a spacious interior. Outside space is plentiful as well, with all villas offering comfy daybeds and loungers for those lazy days in the sun. Villas are located either on the beach, surrounded by lush tropical vegetation or perched on stilts over the glistening water with direct access to the ocean below.
Jo stayed in a Beach Villa and loved the privacy they offer, with the beach just steps away via a tunnel of tropical vegetation. Many villas also offer private pools for that extra bit of luxury and we think that families and small groups will love the two-bedroom villa options, giving them the space and comfort to enjoy quality time together.
Wonderful food and beautiful sunsets
Dining options on RAAYA by Atmosphere are plentiful and Jo thoroughly enjoyed sampling the varied cuisine during her recent stay. Jo’s personal favourite was The Village which offers some of the finest Italian cuisine she has sampled in the Maldives, the homemade tiramisu being her a real highlight!
Other speciality restaurants include MIZÃZ, offering Middle Eastern fine dining with sumptuous cocktails, while AMPERS&ND boasts Pan-Asian delights with live music. Jo particularly enjoyed the sunset views from the terrace at AMPERS&ND – the perfect spot to enjoy an aperitif. For something a little different, Seb’s Shack is not to be missed. This laid back beach bar, tucked away towards the south of the island, serves cold drinks and snacks right on the sand.
Spend your time your way
If you’re looking to keep active during your stay Jo recommends taking advantage of the twice daily complimentary snorkelling excursions offered by the resort. Head out with the qualified team to the nearby reef and marvel as you come face to face with colourful marine life. Back on the island enjoy the impressive range of non-motorised watersports and take part in the variety of weekly fitness classes to keep that heart rate up.
Jo also loved experiencing some activities that make the island different from others that she has visited. She spent time at the Artists Zone where she built her own model Dhoni boat to take part in the island’s traditional boat race (slightly competitive but fun!) and enjoyed the walk through the mangroves to one of Seb’s original lookout towers.
If you fancy taking things a little easier, why not treat yourself to a luxurious treatment in the tranquillity of the ELE|NA Spa. Alternatively, just while away the hours on the beautiful pool terrace, enjoying the laid back atmosphere with chilled out music and the occasional dip to keep you cool. Don’t be tempted to leave the pool too early though, as Jo found this to be another great spot to watch the sunset.
