Mauritius has two distinct seasons, with summer running from approximately November to April and winter from May to October. The summer months are the warmest but also the wettest months, with the highest rainfall tending to occur in February. The later summer months are also the main cyclone season, however it is rare that the island is directly hit as most cyclones tend to remain at sea. Temperatures generally remain in the mid to high twenties and peak around 30 degrees.

Whilst the winter months in Mauritius are the breezier, they are drier than the summer months and still pleasantly warm. Temperatures from May to October tend to be in the low to mid-twenties with an average of 7 hours sunshine per day. If visiting in the winter months, it is worth bearing in mind that the south-easterly trade winds are at their strongest during July and August. At this time, it can feel a little chilly in the evenings particularly on the more exposed parts of the island's east coast.
