Kariwak Village is a truly unique hotel with an established reputation as a holistic haven where complimentary yoga and Tai Chi underpin its ethos of wellbeing. The Kariwak name derives from the two native tribes that originally inhabited Tobago – the Caribs and Arawaks.
The hotel has 18 Poolside cabanas which are close to the restaurant and the main building as well as the pool. There are also six Garden Rooms -single storey rooms spread out around the spacious gardens and situated near hammocks and the yoga pavilion. There is an attractive swimming pool and Jacuzzi.
Meals are served in the open sided village restaurant, widely regarded as one of the best restaurants on the island. Many dishes are flavoured with home grown herbs, spices and vegetables grown in Kariwak's gardens and there is always a good selection for vegetarians. There is live entertainment every Friday and Saturday night which often attracts many visitors and Tobagonians.
Guests can choose to opt for a holistic massage by trained therapists for a local charge. Days may be spent on the fabulous beaches nearby at Pigeon Point – where you can choose to take a 30-minute stroll or the complimentary shuttle service or guests may choose to walk to the beach at Store Bay, a ten minute walk away.
A very private, rustic property which encompasses a holistic and well-being experience for the discerning traveller. The hotel offers fabulous tai-chi classes and massages as well as complimentary yoga classes. This in addition to the wonderful home-grown herbs used in their cooking, makes the hotel very appealing for guests with an interest in authentic and unique Caribbean resorts.
As well as being a lovely base to relax, the location is ideal for those wanting to be close to the main tourist attractions in Tobago. Store Bay beach is only a 10 minute walk away, whilst the popular beach, Pigeon Point is a 30 minute stroll.
I recommend this to those wanting an affordable property which offers something different and authentic, particularly if you enjoy fresh, home-cooked food and a friendly service. The breakfast is delicious and even offers home-made granola and fresh juices – a real treat even if you only want a budget hotel as a base in Tobago.
