The Sailing School

The sailing school’s fleet comprises a J/24 and two new X-Treme26 boats, plus a number of Hobie Cats and Hobie Cat 16s.
Those with some sailing experience can borrow Hobie Cats following an assessment of ability or go out with an experienced instructor. A number of sailing lessons and courses are also available for sailors of different abilities. Sailing regattas are held every Saturday, with new and experienced sailors having an equal chance at winning a trophy.

The following sailing lessons and courses are available:

  • BodyHoliday Intro to Sailing is a complimentary 60 minute lesson which allows participants to discover the excitement of sailing, covering aspects such as hoisting the mainsail and winching the sails. Price: free of charge.
  • Private sailing lessons are available for all abilities. Price: US$150 for 2 hours.
  • The Foundation Sailing Course is a four hour course which includes one hour in a 13ft Hobie Cat to master the basics, one hour on a 16ft Hobie Cat where a jib is introduced, and finally two hours on either the J/24 or the X-Treme 26 Keel Boats. Price: US$200.
  • BodyHoliday sailing school is affiliated to the American Sailing Association and offers a range of courses.
The ASA 101 course includes 12 hours off the water and on board a J-24, covering the basics of sailing terminology, navigation rules, sailing manoeuvres, and safety procedures. This allows the participant to skipper a sloop-rigged keelboat by day in light winds and sea conditions. Price: US$395
The ASA 103 course builds on the basic knowledge acquired on the ASA 101 course and aims to fine tune sailing skills, understanding of navigation, safety procedures and seamanship. This allows the participant to skipper a larger sloop-rigged keelboat by day in moderate winds and sea conditions. Price: US$395
  • Charter the resort’s 24 foot sail boat or one of the new X-Treme 26 sailboats and explore the island’s coastline with a skipper. Prices: US$250 for half day charter, US$400 for full day charter.

Spring Sail (4 March – 1 April 2018)

One of BodyHoliday’s newest theme months is Spring Sail, held for the first time in 2017 when Olympic champion Saskia Clarke worked alongside the sailing club’s team to offer introductory lessons and competitive regattas.

Saskia Clark  is a British sailor who won a silver medal in the 470 Women’s Class at the 2012 Summer Olympics followed by a gold medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics. She will be back at BodyHoliday between 18 March – 1 April 2018, while Nick Thompson will be present between 4 – 18 March 2018. Nick is a fellow Olympian who has won gold medals at two World Championships.

There is something for everyone during Spring Sail, including:

  • Complimentary lessons for beginners held every weekday, including basic sailing theory taught on the beach as well as heading out to sea on Hobie Cats.
  • A sailing experience on board the J/24, where participants learn to sail a keelboat. Price: US$150 per person.
  • A yacht racing taster experience on board an X-Treme 26, where you will learn to trim the sails, optimise ballast and fly the spinnaker. Price: US$150 per person.
  • A special dinner and Q&A session with the Olympic sailor.
  • Weekly sailing regattas which are free to enter with great prizes to be won. Race single- or double-handed in the fun Hobie Cat race or join the crew on one of the X-Treme 26 keel boats for a thrilling head-to-head race.
