Discover Grenada

Posted on

Grenada, the most southerly of the Windward Islands, is known as the ‘Spice island’ of the Caribbean. It is home to the renowned Grand Anse Beach, a beautiful 2 mile stretch of palm fringed white sand, but the island is by no means just a beach destination! Visitors can experience everything from diving and snorkelling to rainforest walks and plantation tours, and Tropic Breeze is on hand to make sure you get the most out of your holiday to Grenada.

Diving and Snorkelling

Grenada has some of the best spots for diving in the Caribbean, with dive instruction available locally. You can snorkel from the beach or drift over coral reefs watching the fish, or for more advanced divers there are wrecks to explore, including the ‘Titanic of the Caribbean’, the Bianca C. A highlight is undoubtedly the underwater sculpture park – a fascinating underwater gallery of sculptures that act as artificial reefs and therefore attract a stunning array of marine life.

Grand Etang National Park and Forest Reserve

Grand Etang Forest Reserve can be found high up in the mountains and offers walking trails that range from 15 minute strolls to more strenuous hikes. The reserve is home to unique flora and fauna, including rare orchids and the Mona monkey. At the centre of the rainforest is Grand Etang Lake, formed in the crater of an extinct volcano and full of brightly coloured fish.

Visit St George’s

St George’s is the picturesque capital of Grenada and is well worth a visit, particularly on a Saturday morning when the market is at its most vibrant. Colourful stalls brim with fresh island produce, including exotic fruits and spices, and it is a great opportunity to make some purchases and chat to the friendly vendors. We would also recommend taking a stroll around the Carenage, St George’s pretty harbour where you will find colourful fishing boats and historical Georgian buildings overlooking the bay.

Belmont Estate

This 300 year old working plantation gives visitors a real insight into the traditions, history, culture and flavours of the island. The Belmont Estate Chocolate Factory offers tree-to-bar experiences where visitors can learn all about the chocolate making process, as well as the history of the estate. There is also a shop where you can purchase some of the treats made on site and a restaurant showcasing local ingredients and Grenadian flavours.

Annandale Waterfall

This stunning waterfall is surrounded by tropical gardens and is easily reachable from the capital and surrounding areas. Visitors can take a dip in the pool beneath the falls, and there is a small bar and restaurant on site where you can relax with a rum punch after a refreshing swim.
