Young Island is an all-inclusive, private island resort in the Grenadines located close to the coast of St Vincent. It was one of the Caribbean’s first private island resorts and maintains a traditional feel and excellent service that has been established over its 30 year history. Young Island feels perfectly remote and offers a Robinson Crusoe feeling, whilst still being close to the mainland and allowing guests to get out and explore.
Cottages and suites are found either on the beach level, some with direct access to the beach, or up the hillside with stunning views out to sea and towards St Vincent. All accommodation has a private terrace and semi-outdoor shower, some with a private plunge pool and separate sitting area, while the largest suite accommodates families in two bedrooms.
Dining is certainly a celebrated aspect of Young Island, with an emphasis on local cuisine, a daily changing menu and a beautiful restaurant location where guests are seated under individual thatched gazebos. Weekly entertainments includes cocktail parties and barbecues with a local steel band. The resort is known for the freshly baked breads that are served with every meal, with flavours including banana, cinnamon and raisin. The infamous Coconut bar is just a short swim from the beach at high tide, allowing guests to sip the freshest cocktails on a floating platform - certainly a unique backdrop for that afternoon Mojito! Of course there is also a full bar back on the island too.
There are varied facilities on offer including a swimming pool which sits amongst tropical foliage, a small spa, a tennis court found towards the back of the island, and complimentary water sports on the beach.
A Sailaway package is available which allows guests to spend a few days on dry land then go sailing around the Grenadines on a crewed catamaran with a skipper and cook. Guests stay on board for 2 nights, visiting destinations including Bequia, Mustique and the Tobago Cays. Days will be spent snorkelling, catching fresh fish for dinner and watching the sunset from the Water.
Access to Young Island is via Barbados, making this a fantastic twin-centre combination where you can enjoy the buzz of the popular island before relaxing in an authentic, private island retreat. There is a complimentary 24 hour ferry service to St Vincent which operates on demand, taking just a few minutes and allowing guests to visit a range of tourist attractions including botanic gardens and waterfalls.

Young Island is a hidden gem - a picturesque island resort with a natural feel and authentic Caribbean charm. I loved the feeling of being close to nature, with pretty pathways leading through the lush, tropical vegetation which hides lizards and birdlife.
The accommodation is comfortable with typical Caribbean furnishings, shuttered windows to make the most of the sea breezes, private terraces with sun loungers and some with private plunge pools. Some cottages are set right beside the sea while others are located up the hillside - I particularly liked the latter thanks to their stunning views out to sea and across to St Vincent.
The food at Young Island is simple yet tasty, with a particular highlight being the selection of fresh bread that is baked on a daily basis - I would highly recommend sampling as many variations as possible!
