Camelia Hills boasts some of the most scenic views of any hotel we have visited! Set on the outskirts of Sri Lanka’s finest tea valley and overlooking Castlereagh reservoir, this luxurious bungalow offers breathtaking mountain and lake views. We’d highly recommend visiting a tea factory during your stay and exploring the stunning scenery right on your doorstep. It is also possible to take a boat trip with a local fisherman on the lake, which is a great way to both experience some local traditions and enjoy your beautiful surroundings. When you are not out exploring, be sure to spend some time at the hotel’s infinity pool, relaxing whilst you watch the clouds roll across the mountains.

Comfort & Elegance

With just five bedrooms, Camelia Hills feels more like a home than a hotel. Rooms are luxurious yet comfortable, and offer views of either the surrounding forests or the lake. You can also enjoy incredible views whilst dining on the outdoor terrace, which is also the perfect spot to enjoy an afternoon tea or a sundowner. Alternatively, head to the cosy lounge, where you will often find a crackling fire lit due to the cool climate of Sri Lanka’s tea country. With Camelia Hill’s exclusive all inclusive concept, guests can look forward to indulgent a la carte menus that showcase the finest locally sourced ingredients.

Our opinion

The location of this hotel is incredible. I’d definitely recommend upgrading to one of the lake view bedrooms as waking up to views over the reservoir surrounded by the misty mountains is an experience in itself. There are some walking trails through the tea estates that start right from the hotel, so you don’t need to go far at all to explore the beautiful countryside.

Rooms at Camelia Hills

Camelia Hills has just five rooms and suites, all of which are individually styled and laid out. All rooms however are luxurious and elegant, offering a ceiling fan, complimentary Wi-Fi, in-room safe, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer, chemical-free toiletries and bathrobes. Please note that only the suites have air conditioning, though the cooler climate in this region means this is not generally necessary

Camelia Bedroom

This room is located at the end of the central hallway and offers a private veranda overlooking the Peak Ridge forest
Featuring a king size bed that can be converted to twin beds, a sitting area with chair and sofa bed and a bathroom with a rain shower
Maximum occupancy: 2 adults (34 sqm)

Lakeview Bedroom

This room does not have a balcony or terrace, but offers stunning views over the Castlereagh reservoir from a floor to ceiling window

Lakeview Suite

One lakeview suite is located on the ground floor with French windows that open directly out onto the lawn, the other is located on the upper floor and has a private terrace

Maximum occupancy: 2 adults (34 sqm)

Dickoya Suite

This two bedroom suite is ideal for families and offers a private veranda overlooking Castlereagh reservoir
Featuring a master bedroom with a king size four-poster bed and a sitting area, a second room with a single bed and pull-out trundle bed and a bathroom with a bathtub and shower
Maximum occupancy: 4 adults (52 sqm)

Location: Camelia Hills is located in Tea Country around 45 minutes drive from Hatton

Children: Families are welcome at Camelia Hills, however there are no children’s facilities.

Experiences: Tea Factory Visit - located in the famous Dimbula tea-growing region, the area produces some of the finest high-grown Ceylon tea; Tea Estate Walks - walk through tea plantations and spectacular landscapes; Picnic at Fairlawn Falls - take a scenic drive to this secluded waterfall, where there are also several pools perfect for taking a dip; Hike the Pekoe Trail - hike stages 6 & 7 of the trail; Fisherman Canoe Ride on Castereagh Reservoir - head out on the reservoir on a traditional canoe with a local fisherman

Dining: Stays at Camelia Hills are on an all inclusive basis. A la carte menus are offered for breakfast, lunch and dinner which showcase the finest local produce, sourced from the hotel’s own gardens or nearby towns.
