Kumu Beach, Sri Lanka

Kumu Beach is a charming, boutique hotel on Sri Lanka’s southwest coast. Guests can spend their days relaxing on comfortable loungers by the infinity pool, whilst enjoying views over the beautiful beach. For those planning a longer stay, the hotel is in an ideal location for being able to explore both the popular resort area of Bentota and the historic Dutch Fort at Galle, where you will find an extensive selection of shops and cafes. However you choose to spend your days here, be sure to head to one of the boulders on the beach in time to watch the sun set over the ocean.

Oceanview rooms & dining

Rooms at Kumu Beach are light and airy, and the majority offer stunning ocean views. If you are planning a longer stay, we’d highly recommend upgrading to one of the Oceanview Suites, which feel like a home away from home. The chic accommodation is complimented by an excellent restaurant, where guests can enjoy delicious cuisine accompanied by superb service and sweeping ocean views. There are also plenty of local dining options to try in the area - be sure to contact us for some recommendations.

Our opinion

This hotel was a real highlight of my trip. It’s the attention to detail that really set Kumu Beach apart for me, such as a sun cream and aloe vera station by the pool towels and the daily happy hour in the garden. This would be the perfect place to end your tour with some relaxation, or even for a longer beach stay.

Rooms at Kumu Beach

Kumu Beach is a boutique hotel with just 10 rooms and suites. Accommodation is contemporary yet elegant, featuring teak wood panelling and a serene colour palette. All rooms offer air conditioning, complimentary Wi-Fi, satellite TV, in-room safe, minibar, tea and coffee making facilities, a hairdryer, chemical-free toiletries and bathrobes

Kumu Bedroom

  • These two bedrooms open onto the main corridor and are ideally suited to children or teenagers looking to be in their own room
  • Featuring twin beds and a bathroom with a walk-in shower. Please note these rooms do not have a balcony or terrace
  • Maximum occupancy: 2 adults (25 sqm)

Oceanview Bedroom

  • These four bedrooms offer a furnished balcony or veranda with stunning ocean views
  • Featuring a king size four-poster bed and a bathroom with a walk-in shower
  • Maximum occupancy: 2 adults (50 sqm)

Oceanview Suite

  • These four suites are located at the far ends of the hotel and offer a balcony or veranda overlooking the ocean
  • Featuring a king size four-poster bed, a separate living room and a bathroom with a walk-in shower
  • Maximum occupancy: 3 adults (75 sqm)

Location: Kumu Beach is located on Sri Lanka’s southwest coast, approximately a 1 hour and 50 minute drive from Colombo International Airport

Families: Children are welcome at Kumu Beach, however please note there are no dedicated children’s facilities

Facilities: Swimming pool, spa, yoga, cookery experiences 

Nearby Experiences: Visit Galle Fort, Madu River boat trip, Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery, Surfing Lessons, Whale Watching, Day in the Sinharaja Forest, Garden Tour at Lunuganga, Watersports in nearby Bentota 

Dining: Kumu Beach offers a la carte dining for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with menus offering Sri Lankan, international and Asian options. Snacks and light meals are available during the day, and the bar serves a selection of local and international beverages.
