The Wallawwa, Sri Lanka

The Wallawwa is one of Sri Lanka’s best hidden gems! Located just 20 minutes from Colombo International Airport, it is the perfect place to spend a night either upon arrival before you start your tour, or the evening before you fly home. Despite being so close to Colombo, this boutique hotel is a haven of tranquillity set within seven acres of secluded tropical gardens. The pretty swimming pool offers somewhere to relax and recharge, and you can also indulge in a treatment at the intimate spa. Those who prefer to keep busy could head into Colombo for a tour of some of the city’s main sites, or visit the nearby beach resort of Negombo.

Elegant yet homely suites

Whether you are having a restful stay at The Wallawwa or using it as a base to explore the local area, be sure to sample the delicious cuisine at the open-sided restaurant. International favourites, Sri Lankan specialities and wellness cuisine are all on offer and showcase some of the region's best local produce. Rooms and suites meanwhile combine modern luxury with the traditional features of an 18th Century manor house. The property itself exudes character and elegance, and this is reflected in the rooms.

Our opinion

It’s a shame in some ways that most people only spend one night here at the beginning or end of their tour because it’s such a beautiful property. The food is incredible, and I have to say my stay here was a real highlight of the trip.

Mountbatten Suite with Plunge Pool

Location: The Wallawwa is located between Colombo and Negombo and is around 20 minutes drive from Colombo International Airport

Children: Families are welcome at the Wallawwa, though there are no specific family friendly facilities
