Aliya Resort & Spa, Sigiriya

The first thing that strikes you when you walk into Aliya Resort & Spa is the breathtaking view over the main swimming pool with Sigiriya Rock in the background. This resort is an ideal base for exploring the highlights of the cultural triangle, as well as enjoying some authentic Sri Lankan hospitality. If you are not out and about exploring nearby places of interest, you can spend your day relaxing by the pool or indulging in an Ayurvedic treatment at the serene spa. For something a little more adventurous, why not take a bicycle tour around the local area, stopping off at a local village temple before cycling past paddy fields and a tranquil lake.

Authentic Sri Lankan hospitality

Aliya Resort & Spa combines modern comforts with island traditions. The property’s interior décor is inspired by the Sri Lankan elephant, with stylish rooms and suites all giving a nod to these gentle giants. Where the resort's heritage really comes through though is in the Sri Lankan restaurant, where authentic cuisine is prepared using traditional methods and served overlooking paddy fields. Those interested in learning a little more about the island’s agricultural history can visit the paddy museum, which is located just by the restaurant.

Our opinion

This is a great all-round option, particularly if you are looking for a slightly longer stay in the Cultural Triangle thanks to its range of facilities and selection of restaurants. I loved the concept of Nagula Restaurant, where we had the chance to watch a cooking demonstration before enjoying some incredible local cuisine.
