As the name suggests, this hotel really is all about the experience! Tea & Experience Factory offers guests the chance to stay in one of Sri Lanka’s oldest tea factories, which was built in the 1800s and stood derelict for many years until it was converted to a hotel. Their unique Leaf to Cup tour gives guests the chance to head out onto the tea plantations and learn how to pluck tea, before heading into the working factory to see the tea making process. We’d also recommend taking a guided walk to a nearby waterfall during your stay, for the chance to see some stunning mountain scenery.

Unique stays in Tea Country

Views from Tea & Experience Factory are simply stunning thanks to its elevated position. Rooms are designed to reflect the property’s industrial heritage, and although they don’t have balconies, guests can wake up to stunning views overlooking the valley below. The industrial theme continues into the restaurant, which is located at the heart of the old factory. For a really special dining experience, treat yourself to breakfast or afternoon tea served on the lawn.

Our opinion

This hotel offers something very unique, and it is worth staying here for the location and the experiences alone. It was eye-opening to learn how much work goes into making your morning brew, and I was blown away by the views when we hiked to the nearby waterfall.

Rooms at Tea & Experience Factory are charming, with décor and designs that reflect the properties industrial heritage. Please note that due to the climate, rooms do not have air conditioning. All rooms are equipped with a fan, complimentary Wi-Fi, in-room safe, hairdryer, tea and coffee making facilities and bathrobes and slippers. Please note that rooms at this hotel do not have balconies.

Deluxe Room - Sinna Dorei

Similar to the Sinna Dorei Family Rooms, but offering considerably more space

Hotel Information

Location: Tea & Experience Factory is located in Mandaram Nuwara in the heart of Tea Country. Please note that due to road damage from the 2025 cyclone, the last 6km up to the hotel will be by Jeep transfer

Children: Children are welcome at Tea & Experience Factory, but please note there are no specific children’s facilities
