If you arrive at Mountbatten Bungalow after spending time in the hustle and bustle of Kandy, the first thing that will strike you is how peaceful the property is. As you walk up the pathway through the manicured lawns and step into the cosy lounge area, you might feel as though you have just walked into an English country house. This boutique hotel is just 20 minutes from Kandy, and the tranquil infinity pool overlooking the lush wooded valley below provides the perfect place to unwind after exploring the city.

Traditional rooms & elegant dining

Accommodation at Mountbatten Bungalow is split between traditional rooms in the original bungalow and wooden chalets tucked away in the hotel grounds. Both offer a completely different experience - in the garden chalets you will be immersed in nature and the chatter of the monkeys in the trees, whilst in the Bungalow Rooms and Suites you will be surrounded by history and tradition. The dining room is also located in the historic bungalow, and for a special dining experience, we would recommend a private dining experience on the pool deck overlooking the misty hills that surround Kandy.

Our opinion

I love the traditional style of the main bungalow at Mountbatten - you really feel like you are immersing yourself in the history of the property. Then when you step outside, you are greeted by stunning views over the hills that surround Kandy. I could have spent hours sitting by the infinity pool taking in those views.

Rooms at Mountbatten Bungalow

Rooms at Mountbatten Bungalow are split between the original bungalow and rustic wooden chalets nestled in the gardens. Bungalow rooms and suites boast antique furnishings and a traditional style, whilst the wooden Garden Chalets are much more contemporary. All rooms and suites offer air conditioning, Wi-Fi, in-room safe, telephone, a minibar, tea & coffee making facilities, a hairdryer and slippers. There is a TV in the Bungalow Rooms and Suites, but not in the Garden Chalets

These rooms are set within the original bungalow and vary in terms of décor
Featuring a king size bed and a bathroom with bathtub and shower
Maximum occupancy: 3 adults (48 sqm)

Garden Chalet

These chalets are nestled in the gardens and have a furnished terrace overlooking the forest and gardens

Bungalow Suite

Traditional in style and featuring warm décor, these suites are located in the main bungalow and boast a private courtyard

Location: Mountbatten Bungalow is located on the hillside around 20 minutes from Kandy

Children: Families are welcome at Mountbatten Bungalow, however there are no specific facilities for children and we feel this property is more suited to couples

Facilities: Infinity pool, spa

Experiences: Visit the Temple of the Tooth - this famous temple houses the relic of Lord Buddha’s tooth and holds ceremonies morning and evening to honour the relic; City Tour of Kandy - explore Sri Lanka’s second city with a guide; Visit Kandy Market - stroll through the vibrant market before enjoying a cookery demonstration and lunch with a local family; Visit Peradeniya Botanical Garden - established in 1821, these gardens have one of the largest collections of flora from sub-tropical climates around the world; Trek the Pekoe Trail - the first section of one of Sri Lanka’s most popular hiking trails begins near Kandy and takes you through gentle countryside scenery

Dining: The Dining Room is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and is designed to have the feel of a Victorian-style banquet hall. The Bar is located within a lounge in the main bungalow and serves a selection of drinks in a comfortable setting. Sri Lankan Teatime can be served on the deck overlooking the mountains.
