The Atlantis Hotel in Barbados was the first hotel on the island’s rugged east coast, built when the sugar cane railway line opened in 1883 to facilitate travel across the island. Now a chic boutique hotel, it faces the exhilarating, sapphire Atlantic Ocean on the site of the former Atlantis Restaurant.
The owners of Little Good Harbour and The Fish Pot Restaurant on the west coast of Barbados have used their expertise to bring their signature style to this sister hotel.

The Atlantis hotel has an intimate, friendly atmosphere with just ten ocean facing suites with views over the rugged coastline. Set within beautifully landscaped gardens with a lagoon shaped swimming pool, the property has an excellent restaurant with an indoor seating area and an outdoor deck overlooking the beach and the crashing waves. The restaurant serves excellent Bajan cuisine as well as famous West Indian buffet lunches every Wednesday and Sunday.

The stunning views make the hotel well worth a visit and provide an excellent contrast to the soft, sandy beaches and small waves of the Platinum Coast.

The Atlantic coast of Barbados is less developed than the west coast, with high waves breaking over dramatic cliffs and rock formations. Guests staying at the Atlantis can take advantage of the consistent conditions by learning to surf, or they may prefer to watch experienced surfers at the renowned ‘Soup Bowl’ surf break which is found nearby.

The Atlantis Hotel is a perfect destination for weddings with the Atlantic as a stunning backdrop and there is a wedding coordinator to assist with every detail from planning, flowers and photography to advising on the legal requirements for a wedding in Barbados.

Guests may opt for a twin-centre holiday which combines a stay at The Atlantis with a few nights at Little Good Harbour to create a unique Bajan holiday.

The Atlantis is a coastal retreat with a stunning backdrop, and well worth a visit – whether it be for a short stay to be combined with another property on the island or as a longer duration for total peace and relaxation. It's great if you want something a little more off the beaten track. Just being on this coast really reminded me of Cornwall and looking out of the window from one of the One Bedroom Suites here, you could easily be mistaken for thinking you were in some quaint Cornish fishing village.

The suites are all tastefully decorated in dark wood and crisp white linen with a nautical feel. The Two Bedroom Suites are self-contained and located in a separate unit alongside the main building and have a more cottage-like feel with a fully equipped kitchen and living area which make them perfect for families.

As the hotel is built on an old sugar cane railway line used during the 1800s, it is steeped in history and has a really authentic charm which would appeal to guests who like small boutique properties with a rich history.  The Sunday buffet lunch is one of its selling points and offers a fabulous selection of home-cooked Bajan dishes and sumptuous desserts which can be enjoyed whilst taking in the views of the rolling waves below.
