Niyama Private Islands is a luxurious resort in the Maldives located just a 40 minute seaplane flight from Male, set over two islands named ‘Chill’ and ‘Play’. The resort fuses traditional Maldivian elegance with contemporary studios and pavilions to create a modern and fun destination that’s perfect for the young at heart looking for an indulgent, romantic escape. The luxury resort even boasts the world's first underwater nightclub, Subsix, offering a unique experience featuring worldwide artists and international DJs for all-night dancing on the sea floor.
Studios, suites and pavilions are either set on the beach or over the water with direct lagoon access, many with a private swimming pool on the sundeck along with loungers and a daybed. All accommodation options are light and ultra-modern, with crisp white interiors and pops of aqua. Luxurious amenities include an in-room entertainment system, a fridge brimming with drinks and treats, and a traditional Maldivian butler service.
Dining at Niyama is a worldwide adventure, including cuisine inspired by the flavours of Asia, South Africa, the Middle East and South America. Blu and Epicure are both casual poolside dining venues which are open throughout the day, one on Play and the other on Chill. Tribal offers an authentic cultural experience showcasing African and Latin American cuisines, with exotic meats cooked using traditional tribal techniques in an atmospheric setting beneath domed pavilions which resemble safari tents. Nest serves Asian cuisine above the treetops, while Edge is an over-water fine dining restaurant which is accessible only by boat, where guests can then descent to Subsix to dance the night away. For light lunches and snacks, guests can visit Dune, an al fresco lounge with plush beanbags on the beach, or The Deli where a range of pastries and sandwiches are available. The rooftop at 'Fahrenheit' is the perfect place to watch the sunset over a cocktail or two. Guests can also choose to dine in a range of destinations across the island, with options including gourmet picnics and beach dinners.
The island has plenty going on, from weekly film nights to scuba diving. Float is a fantastic water sports centre offering endless ways to explore the Indian Ocean, including windsurfing, kayaking, jetskiing and waterskiing. Guests can also set off on fishing expeditions, visit local islands, jump on board a traditional dhoni or snorkel with a marine biologist or discover an underwater world by scuba diving at local dive sites. Other leisure facilities include a fully-equipped gym, a lounge area with DVD library, a beauty salon and a games room with simulators for golf, football, basketball and ice hockey.
Drift is the island's spa, a unique retreat with 6 over-water treatment rooms with lagoon views, 2 treatment sanctuaries for couples and a relaxation area. Treatments and rituals from around the world are available including massages, facials and body scrubs which use local ingredients, with options available for couples and families.
Explorer Kids Club is set in the heart of Play Island, with four different activity programmes offering age-specific activities for those aged 12 months to 12 years old.
